The Voice Exchange

The Voice Exchange is an on-going workshop forum run by DDL member Sebastian Samur. The focus of workshops is vocal experimentation, which can take many forms and varies yearly. Below is a summary of workshops completed within the context of the Voice Exchange.

Fall 2014

The first Voice Exchange workshop session focused on vocal exercises. These included work on movement, voice warm-ups, work with imagery, and work with architecture.

Spring 2015

The second Voice Exchange workshop introduced technology into workshop experimentation, with support from DDL member and sound designer Richard Windeyer. Microphones, both regular and lav mics, were used. Various acoustic qualities were played with individually – notably volume, pitch, and delay – and were eventually intermixed. Observations from this workshop were presented at Brainstorm 6, as well as at the Nouvelle-Sorbonne Paris III Bodies on Stage : Acting Confronted by Technology conference in 2015.

Fall 2015

Planned for Fall 2015 is the creation of a sonic walking tour, including a technical workshop with Richard Windeyer. Students will design a 30-minute audio walking tour around the UofT campus.
